About the I-15 Central Corridor NEPA Study Project
NDOT is proposing to address deficiencies along this 4.5-mile
stretch of I-15 by evaluating potential improvements that will
optimize the operational efficiency and traffic capacity of the
Interstate as well as adjacent interchanges with Sahara Avenue,
Spring Mountain Boulevard, and Flamingo Road. NDOT is also
evaluating the I-15 corridor for additional non-freeway road
capacity west of the interstate and new High Occupancy Vehicle
(HOV) freeway access between Desert Inn and Sahara.
NDOT will coordinate with local and regional entities to ensure
the proposed improvements serve existing and future
transportation needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the freeway be widened?
That is not yet determined; however, the results of a previous study indicate that additional lanes on I-15 will help reduce travel delays and improve safety and operations of the freeway. This project will determine whether widening is required, and where.
Will HOV lanes be incorporated?
HOV lanes are already a part of I-15 through the Central Corridor. As NDOT continues to evaluate the efficacy of the HOV system, decisions from those evaluations will be incorporated into the project.
Which interchanges will be improved?
That is not yet determined, however, interchanges within the study limits include Russell, Tropicana, Flamingo, Spring Mountain, Sahara, and under-construction HOV interchange at Harmon. It is likely that each of these interchanges will be evaluated for possible improvement, especially north of Tropicana, as freeway improvements may necessitate improvements to the interchanges.
Will there be enhancements to local roads?
The project study area is looking at the needs adjacent to the I-15 corridor from Valley View to Las Vegas Boulevard. Where improvements to local roads are necessary, they will be considered, evaluated, and incorporated into the project if deemed beneficial.
When will construction start and how long will it last?
It is not certain that anything will be constructed yet. In the desired situation that a project is identified and selected, it’s possible that construction may begin sometime around 2030. Depending on the alternative selected, the construction duration could take 3 to 4 years.
